Marriott Bonvoy has brought back a mystery bonus for buying their points. With this round of the offer it looks like some members are getting a bonus as high as 40% while others like myself are a discount of 30% for buying points.
The buy points bonus/discount offer
Receive a 40% bonus or 30% discount when you buy 2,000 or Marriott Bonvoy points. This offer is valid until Jun 23, 26.

With a 40% bonus you are buying points for 0.89 cents US$ each:
And with a 30% discount you are paying roughly 0.88 cents each
We value Marriott Bonvoy points at roughly 0.7 cents per point at a minimum so it may not seem like buying points is a good deal but that valuation is a minimum value. We’ve seen examples where redeeming points provide much higher point in value.
My last Marriott redemption had a value of 1.43 cents in US$, so buying at 0.88 or .89 cents would make great sense for a redemption like that.
Buy points for even less
If you are planning on staying at any Marriott Hotels around the world be sure to check if those hotels have an individual hotel bonus points offer available. Those bonus points offers are often the same price or slightly more than the non-member flexible rate so in effect you pay a little more to get the bonus points, thus another method of buying points. The trick here though is many times that little bit extra you pay is WAY cheaper (0.1 to 0.2 cents per point!) than buying points from Marriott even with the 40% bonus.
