For the longest time Marriott Bonvoy has run an evergreen promotion called Courtyard 2K Everyday where travellers could earn 2,000 bonus points per night at Courtyard Hotels in the U.S. and Canada.
This long running promotion has recently been expanded to included two more brands, namely AC Hotels and Four Points by Sheraton. With the expansion you can now book the promotion for stays at over 1,100 locations in the U.S. and Canada.
The catch is that the 2K Everyday Rate is more expensive than the best flexible rate, the best member flexible rate and whole host of other rates.
Here’s an example of the 2K Everyday rate in action at the AC Hotel Fort Worth Downtown:
As you can see the 2K Everyday rate is more expensive than the flexible rates that are available and this is likely the case at all the locations that participate in the offer. Typically travellers will only book a more expensive rate like this one when someone else foots the bill – employers, clients etc.
Here’s the thing though – if you are someone who buys Marriott Bonvoy points with any regularity and also stay with Marriott regularly, these more expensive bonus points rates can actually make sense to book as a way to buy points for less. If you take the example above you are paying US$10 for the 2,000 points or 0.5 cents per point. That’s a lot cheaper than buying points directly from Marriott. For example during the last 40% bonus offer for buying points that ended on July 16, the cost per point was 0.89 cents including the bonus! So if you are buyer of Bonvoy points don’t discount these offers!
