Aeroplan’s buy points bonus is back and offers up to an 80% bonus or 45% discount. You can choose which offer you would like to use once you are on the points dot com landing page. This offer is available until March 29 and allows members to buy up to 500,000 points per transaction up to an annual limit of 1 million points.

The Buy Points Offer:

Earn up to an 80% bonus or receive up to a 45% discount when you buy Aeroplan points. Valid until Mar 29, 23. Click here to learn more and to buy points

Bonus awarded as follows:
Buy 4,000–29,000 points, receive a 45% bonus
Buy 30,000–55,000 points, receive a 65% bonus
Buy 60,000+ points, receive an 80% bonus

or discount as follows:
Buy 4,000–29,000 points, receive a 30% discount
Buy 30,000–55,000 points, receive a 40% discount
Buy 60,000+ points, receive a 45% discount

What’s the better deal?

So is the bonus or the discount the better deal? If we look at the higher bonus/discount when you buy 60,000 or more points here is what you end up paying per point

  • 80% bonus = C$ 1.944 cents each
  • 45% discount = C$ 1.925 cents each
(GST/HST which is charged to Canadians not included in these amounts)

If you don’t require more than 500,000 points the discount is the better the way to go!

Wrapping it up

While these aren’t the best offers we’ve seen for buying Aeroplan points they aren’t bad if you know that you’ll be extracting more value than you pay per points. It is easy enough to redeem these points well above the 2.1 to 2.2 cents you’d  pay per point when you do include GST/HST. What I find interesting in this is we are now seeing Aeroplan buy points offers on regular basis. The program went from almost never offering buy points promotions to having them almost monthly now!
