IHG Hotels & Resorts recently updated their list of new hotels in the Asia Pacifc region where you can earn 2x IHG Rewards points. This is similar to Hyatt’s new hotel bonus offers we cover here on FFB frequently. IHG currently lists 29 new hotel locations that have recently opened or will be opening where if you book via their special offer page you can earn 2x points on those stays. The Double Points rate as they call it is available for the first six months a hotel is open. For the most part the IHG site makes it pretty easy to find the double points rate although one hotel on the list we tested out, the ANA Crowne Plaza Resort Appi Kogen didn’t show any availability on any dates while others like the voco Orchard Singapore were super easy to find the offer.

Offer details:
Double IHG Rewards Points for stays at new IHG Hotels in Southeast Asia, Japan, Guam and Australia. Valid dates for stays vary by hotel. The bonus points rate is valid for the first six months the hotel is open.

Here is an example of the double points offer at the voco Orchard Singapore for a stay in January:

As you can see the double points rate isn’t heavily inflated here as it matches the non member Advance Saver rate but provides a better cancellation policy. The rate prices out at 5.50 SGD more per night (about US$4) to earn 2,680 points in total versus 1,300 points. With IHG points worth around 0.5 cents (US) each in this case you would earn about $6.90 in points for that $4 extra. For me I would pay the 183.20 SGD for the better cancellation policy and the double points would be icing on the cake.
