Back in August FFB gave you advance notice of a 20% bonus for converting Marriott Bonvoy points to Virgin Australia’s Velocity program. That offer turns out to be part of a bigger transfer bonus being run by the Velocity program. Not only can you earn 20% bonus points when you convert from Marriott Bonvoy but also from other hotel programs including Accor, Choice, Hilton IHG and Shangri-La. The bonus is also available on transfers from Australian American Express Membership Rewards (New Zealand excluded) and NAB Rewards.
The bonus is a straight 20% from all the above mentioned programs so this can be a good time if you need to top off your Velocity account for an award on Virgin Australia’s limited route network or their partner airlines like Delta, Etihad and others. As is typically the case your best bet from the hotel side is to transfer from Marriott Bonvoy as they have the best conversion ratio at 3:1 and if you convert 60,000 Bonvoy Points they kick in an additional 5,000 Velocity points for 25,000 Velocity points but then you get the 20% bonus on top for 30,000 points in total.
