A week and a half ago we let you know about a potentially huge promotion from Garuda Indonesia’s GarudaMiles. The offer is for 5,000 bonus miles when you rent a car from RentalCars.com. The terms and conditions were somewhat vague and there were questions on where do you even input your GarudaMiles number. You can read our initial post here on the offer and then come back here to read this update:
After a little work by ourselves and our reader Dan we think that you can make a go of this promotion to rack up tons of GarudaMiles that can then be redeemed for flights on SkyTeam (but remember to redeem you must go to a GarudaMiles office, 4 in the U.S., 2 in Canada plus others Worldwide).
Here are three tips and items we have learned about this promotion:
1. We wrote to Garuda Indonesia to see whether the bonus is only a one time bonus or if it could be earned multiple times. Here is the response we received:
We would like to inform you that you can earn 5000 miles in every each booking. However for determining earn miles in multiple times, you should contact rentalcars.com for more information.
Please make sure your booking and confirm a car rental at http://www.rentalcars.com/?affiliateCode=garudamiles . For your information to be eligible to earn mileage, your GarudaMiles membership number must be inserted in the Driver Details page when making a booking on this designated website.
Thank you for your loyalty to Garuda Indonesia.
This is great news, you can earn the bonus for every booking you make. I’ll save the email and can forward it to any of you who would like to keep it in your arsenal to fight for miles (I’m guessing that may be the case with this promotion.
2. As Dan noted in the comments section of our initial post the car rental needs to be a prepaid rental through Rentalcars.com and not one where you are billed by the actual rental company. You should look for the following:
not this:
If the rental has book now, pay later that means you are paying the rental car company not rentalcars.com and that rental will not be eligible.
3. If you follow the tips in number 2 and pick the right rental then the Driver Details page will provide you a spot to put in your GarudaMiles #. If you don’t get this box it is very likely that the rental will not be eligible for the 5,000 bonus miles.
Hope this helps those of you who are really thinking about maximizing this offer!
