Melia Hotels Melia Rewards has launched a new buy points offer but unlike previous offers where they offer bonus points, they are actually discounting them this time. The offer runs until Feb 29 and you’ll pay 5EUR per 1,000 points versus the regular 8EUR. Years ago buying MeliaRewards points with a bonus was regarded highly lucrative like the Avianca LifeMiles buy bonuses (see our posts from 2013 here and here) as you could convert these points to airBerlin or Miles & More for some great flight redemptions. However this time with this discount they have put a disclaimer that you can only use these purchased points for room redemptions or cash+points room redemptions.
Even with this condition placed on the offer it can be worthwhile as we show in the following example. You can buy 36,000 points for 180EUR and redeem them for a stay in the Bahamas that costs 270EUR or saving you roughly 33% on that night.
I’m sure there are many more examples of where buying the points at this rate will save you on future Melia stays. Please note that you can only buy up to 100,000 points in a 12 month period so with this discount you can buy 100,000 points for 500EUR.
