IHG has had their ‘Bonus Point Package’ offers around for many years, most are in the 1,000 to 2,000 bonus points range however others do go as high 10,000 or 25,000 points. In most cases the bonus point packages are not worth the extra cost unless of course you are not paying for the room but someone else is (aka screw your employer rate). Sometimes however they can be worthwhile and in this case with this 10,000 point offer it all depends on the rate you can get your stay for. We took June 10-12 as an example:
As you can see the 10,000 bonus points rate is higher than the Best Flexible rate by $15 per night and $36 per night more than the AAA rate. If you are who does not or cannot book the AAA rate then the 10,000 point offer can make sense as your are essentially buying those points for $30 or 0.3 cents per point which is a decent deal considering that the lowest you can buy IHG Rewards Club points without a stay is 0.7 cents (booking the cash + points option and cancelling the stay while retaining the points you bought). However the AAA rate ends up being $72 less over those days which means you’d be paying 0.72 cents per point, still not a bad deal if you need a stay in NYC. Of course stays of more than two nights erodes the value of the bonus points.
Here is the offer as it will appear on our IHG Rewards Club Bonus Points page:
