This is a pretty significant bonus from Alaska Airlines seeing that it bonuses some of their longest flights and not just for a month or two but for the rest of the year! This is a great bonus for Alaska to offer but it does make us worry. Over the past few weeks we have seen a sudden surge of flight bonus offers that aren’t your typical route launch bonuses. Lots of times this means the economy is going to crap out as airlines are a very good indicator of how the global economy is doing. Way back when (maybe 7-8 years ago but don’t quote me on that) when there was a major  downturn in the global economy we were listing upwards of 700 routes that had bonus offers on them. Lately that has been way down, even below 100 routes at times. Hopefully the past three or four weeks aren’t an indicator of this and the airlines are just feeling generous with their promotions. In this case with Alaska, it does seem to be more of a competitive move rather than a stimulus offer.
