In what they call a celebration of their new partnership with Etihad Airways, or should we say ownership, Alitlia has doubled the bonus for joining their MilleMiglia frequent flyer program. As with the normal 2,000 mile bonus, the new 4,000 miles requires an mileage earning activity within three months of joining. One thing you should be aware of is the three year renewal of the MilleMiglia program. That is due so sort of Italian Law, MilleMiglia essentially shuts down after three years then restarts. Technically you lose all your miles at the end of that three years, which just happens to be at the end of 2015 but Alitalia usually has some sort of promotion in the new program where you can save your miles from the old program but that usually includes a flight on Alitalia. So if you don’t think you’ll have a use for these 4,000 miles by the end of this year or won’t be able to save them in the new 2016-18 program don’t bother signing up.
