IHG Rewards Club has taken a lot of heat in the blogger circles due to their somewhat limited and even confusing Covid-19 policies. One of the biggest complaints was no extension or rather a pause on Club members whose points are set to expire (yours truly included in May). That has changed now – IHG Rewards Club will now extend points that are set to expire between April 1 and December 31, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

“For all members with points due to expire from 1 April through to the end of the year, we are extending the expiration date of points to 31 December 2020. We’ll be contacting members with more information.”

The other big issue people have had with IHG is no word on extending elite status. IHG was one of the front runners providing lower elite qualifying criteria but as this crisis continues and will continue on many will not even be able to qualify or re-qualify with the lower requirements. And after tonight’s announcement there is still no news on this front which means at this point there is no extension of elite status in the IHG Rewards Club program. Hopefully that may change in the next few weeks as IHG comes to the realization that their members aren’t going to qualify by regular means even with the lower requirements.
