JW Marriott Bonvoy LA Live

Marriott Bonvoy has brought back a mystery bonus for buying their points. With this round of the offer it looks like some members are getting a bonus of up to 50% while others like myself have an up to 40% offer for buying points. With this promotion each member can buy up to 200,000 points annually before any bonuses, this up from the standard 150,000 points.

The up to 50% bonus:

Receive up to a 50% bonus when you buy 2,000 or more Marriott Bonvoy points. The bonus varies by member and will be revealed when you log in. This offer is valid until Sep 9, 26 . Click here for more details and to buy Marriott Bonvoy Points.

With a 50% bonus you are buying points at 0.83 cents each and 0.89 cents each if you have the 40% bonus.

We value Marriott Bonvoy points at roughly 0.7 cents per point at a minimum. That being said, we always stress it is a minimum. We’ve seen examples where redeeming points provide much higher point in value and if you can get over 0.9 cents in redemption value then it can make sense to buy them.

Buy points for even less

If you are planning on staying at any Marriott Hotels around the world be sure to check if those hotels have an individual hotel bonus points offer available. Those bonus points offers can sometimes cost less than the best member flexible rates but in most cases are the same or slightly more than the non-member flexible rate so in effect you pay a little more to get the bonus points, thus another method of buying points. The trick here though is many times that little bit extra you pay for your stay to get the extra points is WAY cheaper than buying points from Marriott even with a 40% or higher bonus.

  1. Can you please explain the last part of your post about checking for individual bonus points offers? Is that on a point rate or cash rate? This is new to me.

    1. The individual bonus points rates are for cash rates. You can find a listing of many of them here: https://www.frequentflyerbonuses.com/marriott.html#count
Often they are a special rate that is either the same as the best member rate or it can be slightly higher so with the rate difference you are effectively buying those points with your stay but at a much lower rate than actually buying points from Marriott.
