Newest FFB Feature: Discounted Travel Reward Offers

In our ongoing quest to provide you with the most complete source for bonus offers for all travel related reward programs worldwide we are pleased to offer our newest feature on FFB: Discounted Travel Rewards Offers. What does this feature provide? Well it provides a listing of all reward (or as some call redemption) offers that are discounted whether it is for flights, hotel stays, car rentals, you name it. How does this fit in with the "Frequent Flyer Bonuses" mission? Technically, you could consider a mileage or point discount on a reward redemption as a bonus as you are using less miles or points for that redemption. In fact, some programs even call these discounts a bonus as they word their promotions something like this: "Earn 1,000 bonus miles when you redeem for a flight within North America". To see our current listing of discounted reward offers please click the following link (make sure you bookmark it too!)

Up to 110,000 Capital One Venture Miles up for grabs

In what can be described as the largest sign up bonus yet for any credit card, the 110,000 Capital One Venture Miles you can potentially earn is definitely enticing. The promotion goes like this, you get 10,000 Miles simply for applying for and receiving the card. Then, Capital One will match up to 100,000 of your airline credit card miles (technically speaking this means 100,000 miles earned with credit card that has airline branding) if you spend $1,000 on the card within the first 90 days. There are certain restrictions, such as the matching of only U.S. based airlines (Alaska, American, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Spirit, United, US Airways, Virgin America, Air Tran or Southwest) and as stated above it is supposed to be based on mileage earned from the credit card, however Gary Leff (View from the Wing Blog) has done some leg work for the rest of us and it appears that all you have to be is a credit card holder from one of the airlines and they will match the balance off your frequent flyer statement whether or not all those miles came from the credit card. The last catch? They are only giving away 1 Billion Venture miles, so this offer may not be around for too much longer if everyone who signs up is going for the full 100,000 miles (ie 10,000 people)

For complete details on the offer please visit Capital One Venture Match My Miles website.

Qatar Airways is giving away 100 pairs of tickets to celebrate their 100th destination

To celebrate, Qatar Airways is giving away 100 pairs of economy class system wide tickets to 100 lucky subscribers. Mileage Plus/OnePass mileage transfer and Elite status tools

Early last week (sorry been traveling and didn't get a chance to put this up sooner) United's official rep to posted new tools for members of United's Mileage Plus and Continental's OnePass programs to transfer miles between accounts and combine elite earnings between them as well. The reason for these tools is that the two airlines frequent flyer programs are still operating as separate entities until they are combined sometime in 2012.

To access the new tools see below:
Transfer redeemable miles between your OnePass and Mileage Plus accounts at or (both take you to the same place).

Match Elite status and combine Elite earnings for your OnePass and Mileage Plus accounts. For those of you who have Elite Qualification miles and segments/points in both OnePass and Mileage Plus, you can now combine these earnings to earn Elite status, Regional Upgrades and Systemwide Upgrades. Go to or for all the details.

Avianca and TACA launch new unified frequent flyer program: LifeMiles

The partnership between Avianca and TACA has grown even stronger as each airline has stopped their old FFPs (Plus and Distancia respectively) with the launch of their new unified program called LifeMiles. All miles held in the old accounts are being honored and should be in member's new LifeMiles accounts. Elite status in either program is also being honored in the new program. Apparently members old account numbers will be the same in LifeMiles.

Overall the new programs is stated as being better and they provide a chart on the LifeMiles website comparing it to the old AviancaPlus and Distancia programs. Apparently achieving elite status will be easier,  there will be a better upgrade policy and there will be many more mileage earning opportunities. To see the comparison chart click here.

Overall the program does look like a bit of an improvement over the old programs and this will be an interesting one to watch over the next year or so to see if they live up to their promises. One thing I can tell you right off the bat is their new website is much better then the old AviancaPlus or TACA Distanica sites.

For complete details on the program please visit

Germanwings Boomerang Club the latest FFP to move to a revenue model

Following in the footsteps of WestJet, JetBlue and Southwest, German low cost carrier Germanwings has changed the earning methodology for its Boomerang Club to a revenue based model. Previously, the program awarded a fixed 1,500 miles per segment which accounted for a free flight after 8 segments. The new system awards 10 Miles for every 1€ spent with Germanwings (Flight, seat reservation fees, luggage fees etc) and members can redeem for a one way flight at 10,000 miles. This means that a member can earn a single one way ticket for every 1,000€ spent excluding bonuses or miles earned with partners.

As we have seen with all the other programs running the revenue based model, the program awards the higher spenders faster then those who do not spend as much traveling (think Business traveler vs. Leisure traveler) however this will also impact the business traveler who flew on short routes with Germanwings as they always received 1,500 miles no matter what and now it may take them more segments on that short route to earn the same free flight. On the other hand, last minute business travelers may be awarded sooner then the previous 8 segment rule strictly on the fact there are shelling out more money to buy there revenue tickets.

The revenue based model is a good system and works well for airlines, particularly low cost airlines, but when it is introduced as a change to an existing program it can and will be met with some backlash as those frequent travelers who earned free flights without spending too much will have to, unhappily,  fork over more money or look at switching programs where they may be rewarded sooner. As is with any change to a  Frequent Flyer Program, you win some and you lose some as you can't make everyone happy.

For more details on the change please visit Germanwings' Boomerang Club
